How to Setup WhatsApp Backup
Backups can be taken directly to the local files i.e. you can store backups in your phone storage or you can backup it to the Google Drive through your Gmail account.
The backup includes your messages and media i.e. photo, documents, and videos. You can restore them when you reinstall WhatsApp. Your media and messages will also back up to your phone’s internal storage.
You need to remember that the backup is not protected by WhatsApp end-to-end encryption while in google drive.
To access the backup settings in WhatsApp, tap the three-dot menu>Settings>Chats>Chat Backup
Here you can see the last time it has saved the backup to your local files and google drive.
If the Google Drive settings are off, and when you tap on Backup button, it will only backup to your phone internal storage.
Whenever you reinstall the app on the same phone, you can restore them from the phone’s internal storage.

But when you change the phone, you lose that backup and it came in help when you had a backup in Google Drive. You can always restore from that irrespective of any phone you are using.

Backup to Google Drive
Using this setting you can simply turn on or off the back up for google drive. There are other options like Daily, Weekly, and monthly backup. Use them depending upon your choice.

Google Account for Backup
Whatsapp allows you to choose the Google account to which you want to save the backup. For one WhatsApp account, you can only select one google account at a time. Whenever you change the google account, further backups will be saved to that account.
And the final option is to select the connection type over which you want to back up i.e. over wifi or cellular.
If you want to include videos in your backups, then don’t forget to turn on the Include videos option placed at the bottom of all the options.
How to restore after you Reinstall WhatsApp
After you reinstall the app and all the preliminary settings like giving the mobile number and verifying it through the 6-digit OTP, there comes an option of restore backup to the WhatsApp.
Whatsapp will automatically search for backups in your phone’s internal storage as well as in Google Drive. When it finds, it shows an option to restore. When you tap on continue, it starts restoring all the chat backups including your messages, photos, documents, and videos, etc.
After the restore, it shows you the confirmation about the restoration. Tap on Next to complete the process.
