
How to use Google Keyword Planner
So you have a blog or website that you have started it recently and wanted to rank it on Google search result. You want to gain organic traffic from your keyword that you use in your website content. It is the thought of every newcomer to the internet who have a website to have a huge impression of their content. And in order to do that, you must be researching for keywords that have less competition and meanwhile they have significant search in future. Google keyword planner helps here to research for the keyword deeply.
Google keyword planner is a part of the google ads and it comes in the tools section. If you have a google ads account then you may have seen it earlier, but if you don’t have google ads account then creating a google ads account is not a big deal. Just use your google account to sign up to google ads account.
As you log in to your google ads account you have the home page and on the home page, click on the tool option which is the top right corner of the window.
In the planning section, select the keyword planner to open it.
The starting page of google keyword planner looks like the following where there are two sections. One for finding and researching keyword or phrases and get ideas that can help you reach people interested in your service of the website and other section is for the forecast and get the search volume of your keywords that you have searched. You can get the prediction of your search results for your website.
To find new keyword and do some research on them click on the first section i.e. Find new keywords and put a keyword of your interest and click on Get started. For example “WhatsApp”.
Here comes the main part. As you can see there is a table containing various information i.e. the keyword you searched and relevant keywords, average monthly searches of those keywords, competition, ad impression share, top of page bid (low range), top of page bid (high range) and account status. All these items have significant value in finding a great keyword to use it in your website or blog content.

Avg. monthly searches
Average monthly searches show you the volume of searches of your interested keyword over the time depending upon the location and network setting. this also indicates the popularity of a keyword over the time of the year. You can sort this item from high to low or low to high to get a deep understanding of search volumes of different keywords.
Competition
Here you can have a view of how competitive is your keywords. You can see others keywords with their competition. Competition can be set as low, medium and high and you choose from them in order to target your keyword. It determines the number of bidding on each keyword by the advertisers relative to other keywords on google. This can help you a lot in targeting your desired keyword and using it in your blog. If there is not enough data you see a dash (-).
Ad impression share
It is the number of impressions received divided by the total number of searches over the location and network that you are targeting. This can help you to identify the potential opportunity of the impression for your interested keyword. If there is not enough data, you may see a dash (-).
Top of page bid (Low range)
It is the lower range of bid by the advertiser for the top of page bid. It shows what periodically advertisers have paid for the particular keyword over the time.
Top of page bid (high range)
It is the higher range of bid by the advertiser for the top of page bid. It shows what periodically advertisers have paid for the particular keyword over the time.
Use the filter in google keyword planner for a better result
There are various filters that you can use to get better results and have a better understanding of your targeted keyword.
For example, if you want to filter the results with the competition then you can add it as shown below and can choose low, medium or high and then apply.
You can also sort the results by choosing the range of time from the top right corner as shown below to get an overview of the trend of the searches over time.
Targeting the audience of a specific location is also possible in google keyword planner. You can choose a single location or multiple locations and even choose all locations as shown below.
