Suppose you went to a shopping mall, you found an item interesting, wanted to buy that but for some reason, you put that on the place and skipped buying that particular item.
But when you go to other shops you see the ads of those items that you skipped before.
You leave the shop but still, you are seeing those particular item ads everywhere you go, on the road, on your street and even at your home. That’s an embarrassing and irritating situation.
Sometime, if you want to buy the item and you really need it, then those ads are actually helping you to remember your shopping list, but if you don’t need the item and you actually wanted it for the sake of interest and now you don’t really want that, then those ads will definitely bother you.
The same thing happens in online marketing and advertising. You may be experiencing something like seeing the same ads on various websites that you browse on the internet.
You have searched some products on online shopping websites and whenever you leave without buying those products and browser other websites, you see those products as ads everywhere on the website. You might have a feeling like those products are actually following you. Those ads are instigating you to buy them.
These are the personalized ads that are relevant to your activity i.e. your searches on online shopping websites. But you don’t really like to buy and don’t even like to see those products on ads wherever you go.
If you don’t like to be followed by those ads that repeatedly shows what you don’t want to buy, then we have some settings on our browser that you can set.
But before the setting, we should understand how actually this happens i.e. how websites know what products you are searching or interested in the internet and want to buy.
The concept is cookies. You might have heard the term.
Cookies are small files that are stored on the computer of users. They are designed to hold a modest amount of data specific to a particular client and website and can be accessed either by the web server or the client computer.
This allows the server to deliver a page tailored to a particular user, or the page itself can contain some script which is aware of the data in the cookie and so is able to carry information from one visit to the website to the next.
Ever wondered how your login id and password are saved on the server of the website that you browse.
They store that data on the cookie and whenever you try to access the website, it automatically login you using that data. Using those cookies data, ads agency shows relevant ads for you.
