Today I’m going to write an exciting article that will blow your mind. We’ll add multiple displays to our laptop or desktop without any cost. We’ll use our other smartphones like Android Phones, iPhones and even tablets also.

Yes, you heard it right!!

We’ll make our phones and tablet as monitors of our computer system and extend them with the primary one.

Things you’ll need

Laptop or Desktop
SpaceDesk software for the Laptop
Phone version app of SpaceDesk
Phones/Tablets should be connected to the laptop over wi-fi

SpaceDesk for Laptop

This process only requires software that needs to be installed in the laptop and the corresponding mobile version app will be installed in the respective mobile phones. If you are using android phones, then you can download and install it from the Google play store. If you are using an iPhone or iPad, then the same app can be installed form apple App store.

The name of the software that you will install in the laptop is SpaceDesk. It can be downloaded and installed on the laptop from its official website.

How to Add Multiple Displays to your Laptop without any cost

You may be using Windows 7, 8 or 10, and choose the software version from the website accordingly. Download the software and install it on your laptop.

SpaceDesk for Phones/Tablets

The Android version of SpaceDesk can be downloaded and installed from the Google Play Store and the corresponding iPhone version can be installed from the App Store of apple.

Just install the app on the devices you want to make an extended monitor for your laptop. You can use more than 3 devices, but in this case, I am using my tablet and phone both are running on the Android platform.

Setting Up the Process

After things are ready to make the set up i.e. you have installed the SpaceDesk in all the devices you need including the laptop, now connect the all the devices to a single router over wi-fi.

If your main device is the laptop, then you only need to do the following:

Turn on the Hotspot of any mobile phone.
Connect other devices to it over wi-fi. (You don’t need another external router.)
Now open the SpaceDesk app in all the devices like laptop, phones, and tablets.
In the laptop version of SpaceDesk, you will see the IP address and in other devices, if all are properly connected over wi-fi, you will see the same IP address all are showing the same.

Tap on the IP and every device will now show the screen of the laptop and they now become another monitor of your system.

Now you need to do some graphics and appearance settings in order to make all screen looks perfect for their resolution and you can also make them extend to one another.

Just do some of the following settings, if needed.

Extend Desktop to this display

This option is used to make your other phones and tablets as extended or continued display for the laptop screen. This can be helpful if you want to make your screen bigger for your multiple purposes.

When phones and tablets are connected to each other through SpaceDesk, you can see different screens or displays.

You can select each one, drag and drop where you need to place the device physically in order to make the display continue.

Choose the Main Display

When you have connected multiple displays, you have the option to choose the main display of your system. The main display is the screen where the icons of the screen start displaying for a rough approach. Here, in this case, we have made the screen 1 i.e. the Laptop as the main screen and have arranged our tablet and phone like in Screen 2 and 3.

You can make the tablet or the phone as the main display by selecting the screen and ticking the “Make this my main display”. This will make you selected to display as the main display.

Setting Resolution for each Display

When multiple displays are connected, each display might be set to a different resolution that may not be set to it. As a result, the display in the phone or tablet may look blurry and not as clear as that of your laptop. So in order to set the proper resolution, we can do the following.

Select the display for which you want to set the Resolution.
Choose the highest available resolution from the drop-down menu from the Resolution option.
Click on Apply and then OK.

Now you are all set with multiple displays for the laptop which are extended to each other and continued.

Benefits of Multiple displays

There are many benefits of setting up multiple extended displays. If you are a video editor, then you will definitely need a bigger screen where you will edit the videos, see the preview and other stuff. In this context, if you are using your phones or tablets as multiple devices, you can have the preview of the video in different screen sizes.

Another interesting thing you can do with this is that you have some videos on your laptop and you want to watch it while working something on your laptop screen. Then you can drag the VLC player playing the video to the mobile screen while you are working on the laptop screen.

In a short, you are typing a blog in the laptop screen, watching a comedy video in the mobile screen and replaying the message using WhatsApp web in the tablet screen without making any window size shorter. Isn’t it fun?
